A friend asked this question the other day and my immediate response was that I didn't know and that I'm sure it's different for everyone. What I do know is that I grew up in a house that did not say the words, " I love you". My parent's action demonstrated their love. I'm sure my siblings might have a different opinion about it.
I believe that my actions I show towards my own kids makes them randomly say "I love you mom".
It wasn't till I married my husband and learned that he needed to hear those words, that I became more comfortable saying those words.
Marriage is work and evolving. I believe that the essence of the person you married stays true, but interests change and experiences will change opinions and perspectives. This result in possible changes in a person. This is all good and it's important to stay aware and present. Nothing is a guarantee.
I can across these two articles that discuss marriage and the notion of "soul mates". I found them to be very interesting and wanted to make note of them.
