What I believe

We always second guess ourselves and as a teacher I'm always wondering if my approach is the best way. In a changing world where today's students are being pulled in every direction and are being pushed to do their best all the time I sometimes wonder if we allow enough time to let them enjoy what they are doing and to enjoy their success before we move on to the next thing.
I am thankful that I have friends, parents and colleagues that I can vent to and bounce my thoughts and ideas off of. Thankful for their ideas even if we might not always agree and  open to their suggestions and viewpoints.  I hope to always being open and remember that I can always learn something new and that maybe my way may not always be the only way because they are others that have been doing it for much longer then me with have much success.
I love what I do and my passion for music is what I hope I pass on to my students. It is important to play more than what is on the page. When you capture an emotion, evoke emotions for the audience, make a connection, and paint a picture with the music; that's when you know we have succeeded.
This weekend I was reminded that the sleepless nights wondering if I was doing the right thing or asking my self if I was pushing the kids too hard paid off. My students were prepared, they felt good about themselves and most importantly they connected with the music. Receiving Superior ratings for all my groups was just the icing on the cake.

"To play without passion is inexcusable." Ludwig van Beethoven

How I knew

How did I know that my husband was the one for me? I sometimes have a hard time explaining this, but for me it cam down to having a sense that I was going to be alright in my life. Being with Chris gave me confidence. I cam across this quote that sums up how I knew he was the one for me.   “Someday you’ll find the right person, and you’ll learn to have a lot more confidence in yourself. That’s what I think. So don’t settle for anything less. In this world, there are things you can only do alone, and things you can only do with somebody else. It’s important to combine the two in just the right amount.” -  Haruki Murakami

Morning thoughts

I love them Spring is coming, so they say. Yesterday after school we were able to enjoy the creek and playground till it was dinner time. The joys of being able to make the day pass while being outdoors. I can't wait. This morning Eva got a little outdoor time before the rain came,  and Ella hummed along to some Neill Young. Then puzzle mania ensued. I was reading this blog, Manger  and she wrote the following: "While our kids are still small, our lives young, our dogs so splendid, our journey is just beginning!" It reminded me so much of my husband because whenever I say "Things are great."  He always chimes in that the best is still yet to come. I wonder what's to come?

Lazy Fall Days

This weekend the girls and I had a great weekend. It was a beautiful fall day in Virginia. We ventured out to the pumpkin patch near the house with cousin Veia and had a great time sliding down the slides and picking out our pumpkins. I knew I wanted to do something outdoorsy with the girls on Sunday but I couldn't decide between visiting an apple orchard, hiking the Shenandoah or checking out Frying Pan Park. Ultimately, I decided to pull out Ella's bike out while Eva was sleeping and to my delight she finally discovered the joys of riding a bike. She was on it all day, it was great. We decided to talk a walk in our own backyard. We have a great park system with wonderful trails. I'm so glad I decided to not get in my car. Ella got on her Skut and I put Eva in the backpack and we walked to an open field, I pulled chocolate chip cookies and that's when Ella asked me if I wanted to daydream with her. Which meant looking at the...
